Program Overview

The Training Program in Adult Psychoanalysis is open to licensed professionals with mental health degrees such as Psychiatry, Psychology, Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, and Psychiatric Nursing. This advanced program builds on the foundational knowledge acquired in the Training Program in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy, offering a more in-depth exploration of psychoanalytic theory and practice.

Program Requirements

Candidates in the Training Program in Adult Psychoanalysis are required to complete the following components:

  • Two-Year Core Curriculum: The two-year core curriculum is the foundation for all of our training programs, covering essential psychoanalytic theories, methodologies, and contemporary practices. This curriculum is designed to provide a deep and comprehensive understanding of psychoanalytic psychotherapy.
  • Additional Three Years of Didactic Courses and Clinical Seminars: Following the core curriculum, candidates will engage in three additional years of advanced didactic courses and clinical seminars. These courses delve deeper into psychoanalytic concepts, techniques, and contemporary practices.
  • Supervised Analytic Control Cases: Candidates are required to complete three supervised analytic control cases. These cases offer hands-on experience in applying psychoanalytic techniques under the guidance of experienced supervisors, ensuring a thorough understanding and application of psychoanalytic principles.
  • Personal Psychoanalysis: A minimum of 500 hours of personal psychoanalysis is required, with sessions occurring at least three times a week. The personal analyst must be five years post-graduation from an American Psychoanalytic Association or International Psychoanalytic Association institute. This intensive personal analysis is crucial for deepening self-awareness and understanding the psychoanalytic process from the patient’s perspective.

Certification and Professional Development

Upon successful completion of the Training Program in Adult Psychoanalysis, candidates will receive a certificate recognizing their advanced training and expertise in psychoanalysis. This program not only equips candidates with the skills necessary for effective psychoanalytic practice but also prepares them for leadership roles within the field.
