Welcome to the American Institute for Psychoanalysis
The American Institute for Psychoanalysis (AIP) has been training mental health professionals for the clinical practice of psychoanalysis and psychoanalytic psychotherapy since its establishment in 1941. As the second oldest continuously functioning institute in New York City, and third oldest institute in the United States, the AIP prides itself on its diversity of people and opinions while maintaining the growth-oriented philosophy which Karen Horney pioneered in psychoanalysis: that everyone “has the capacity as well as the desire to develop his potentialities and become a decent human being,” and that “man can change and go on changing as long as he lives.”
